Welcome to the very first edition of our Southern Summer Book Club! We hope you’ve already heard a lot about Kionna Walker LeMalle’s Behind the Waterline, but if not, hopefully this book club discussion will pique your interest!
We gathered friends and book world voices to discuss LeMalle’s novel, including Scott Gould, author of 6 books (including one coming later this summer!) in South Carolina; Donna Newsome, Associate Professor of English at River Parishes Community College in Louisiana; and Annie Phillips, Digital Services Librarian for the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library in Alabama. The crew discusses the details of Behind the Waterline and its themes of revelation, generational trauma, community, and the power of storytelling.
